Bull Of Heaven – 109: Boxes of Scorpions Released by Tripwire

Bull of Heaven, for those unaware, are a band that have been around since 2006. They are most infamous for their album 210: Like a Wall in Which an Insect Lives and Gnaws, which clocks in at 50,000 hours, or 5.7ish years.

However, besides making Drone pieces that literally no one is ever going to listen to in their entirety, they also make some amazing music when they put their mind to it.

Today’s piece, 109: Boxs of Scorpions Released By Tripwire, is one of the noisier pieces in their discography. Don’t let the dusty, weird, lo-fi, spooky noise collage at the start fool you. Give this mammoth a few minutes to get warmed up and the static is going to hit you in the face. Distorted childrens’ song, weird drum beats, noise squall, and much more are sprinkled through this amazingly “active” collage.

The album is one piece, and lasts for 96 minutes, so it is a challenging piece of music, though definitely not by Bull of Heaven standards. However, for those who are willing to sit with it and engage with it, it will reward you in spades with the landscapes you will explore.

Take it from the guy who is on his third spin today of it 😉
